In 2015 I sketched, designed three elephant objects. The first of these three MDF Objects is entitled “Coexistence”. Oil Painting on MDF. 16cm x 27cm x 27cm.
Singapore is a vibrant modern city where wild tropical nature exists. During the three years I lived there I spent a lot of time in the urban and wild jungles of Singapore. Marina Bay Sands, the Singapore Flyer and the Merlion are celebrated on “Coexistence”. While on a nature walk of the Singapore Nature Society I met Jit-Leang Foo. This nature lover created an outdoor bio-diversity garden at Seletar Country Club. He planted nectar plants and caterpillar food in the garden. Many butterflies, dragonflies, and other insects were attracted. They in turn have attracted birds and other animals. Singaporean children are educated here about bio-diversity. Mr. Foo has also taken his knowledge to other locations in Singapore where bio-diversity gardens have been planted. In 2015 the Singapore Nature Society asked Singaporeans to vote for the national butterfly. The candidates for this competition coexist with these man-made Singaporeans on this object. Mr. Foo`s hand is painted on the front, holding Biden. Biden is an important Singaporean wildflower that promotes bio-diversity. You will also find an otter, a beloved Singaporean permanent resident!
